President of the Board of Directors of Group Algar
“Social responsibility is part of our beliefs and therefore is part of the Algar group universe.
Supporting community projects, encouraging and supporting the education of children, respecting the environment and enhancing our team postures are essential to our identity regarding our investments in telecommunications, agri-food, entertainment and services.
In this sense, 2002 was a year in which the Algar group advanced in the consolidation of its identity. Algar took a key step in the creation of the Algar Institute, which coordinates the companies' social investments, giving them focus, consistency and cohesion. Its goal is to consolidate the group's decision to invest in the improvement of children's education, supporting public schools and projects that can expand the access of these students to knowledge and quality of life.
The Algar Institute reinforces the group's commitment to build value for the future. A better future for its members and shareholders and the communities who receive it. Currently, the tendency of companies to assume their social responsibility grows increasingly worldwide.
Algar and its companies have known this and practiced this for a long time and, therefore, we are investing in the education of our children. We are investing in Brazil.”
Vice President of Marketing and Sustainability of the Algar Group
“For me, what makes a sustainable company is the way it interacts with stakeholders, i.e., the quality of the relationship it has with its talents, community, suppliers and the environment. Therefore, a sustainable company depends on the behavior of everyone in their daily lives and the partnerships it develops.
To coordinate and give focus and attention to our community and environment, we created the Algar Institute in 2002. It aims to provide guidelines and monitor the development of all sustainable actions of Algar, operating in three areas: social, environmental and cultural.
Our educational activities are focused on training students and teachers in public schools located in the cities where we operate. The Algar Institute develops social programs in order to improve the quality of education and contribute to human development. We also have a volunteer program, where affiliates of the Algar Group are encouraged to participate in activities, in person or remotely.
In the cultural dimension, the Algar Institute is responsible for managing the tax incentives in the municipal, state and federal levels, promoting the projects' sponsorship. It is important to value our culture and respect the cultural agents of our community. We use almost 100% of the potential of the Algar Group.
In environmental activities, the Institute is responsible for the Algar Sustainable Program, mobilizing people to have sustainable practices. In addition to promoting training and awareness of affiliates, it also consolidates the shares of companies, giving guidelines for sustainable practices and processes. The focus of our program is on climate governance, and one of our main activities is monitoring and proposing actions to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in our companies.
Our founder believed in and practiced sustainability. He used to say: 'We work to serve the community'. This is a sustainable vision. It is a vision that the surroundings have to grow with the company. We can not have a thriving company with a community that does not grow and does not develop. Therefore, the company's role is crucial to contribute to the development of its surroundings, respecting the environment, suppliers and customers. This is the integrated vision of sustainability: when the company considers in its strategic planning and in their daily lives all stakeholders that will ensure the continuity of the organization.”
